This Portfolio contains selected images from 1983 through 2022 for the project The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico. I spent a total of more than six months in Mexico, walking more than 1000 miles, looking for images, visiting all regions of Mexico. Cobweb, from The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico’s Cities, 2014, Inkjet Print on Hahnemule Fine Art Paper, 24 x 20 inches, edition of 9. This image seems to have a yin yang feel to it, the new and the ornate with the old and less taken-care-of.
Sculpted Tree, from The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico’s Cities, 2013, Inkjet Print on Hahnemule Fine Art Paper, 24 x 20 inches, edition of 9. I was drawn in this image to the repeated geometric shapes from both nature, as shaped by man, and the urban environment.
Statues, from The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico’s Cities, 2009, Inkjet Print on Hahnemule Fine Art Paper, 20 x 24 inches, edition of 9. The communications of the various figures in this image seems quite disparate.
Children and U.S. Mexico Border Fence, from Mexico, a 31-Year Journey, 2013, Inkjet Print on Hahnemule Fine Art Paper, 24 x 20 inches, edition of 9. These children could care less about the border fence behind them, jutting out into the surf of the Pacific Ocean, separating Mexico and the United States. When I visited here I was very moved and shocked to see the huge extent of security, with helicopters, watch towers, search lights, and uniformed border patrol officers patrolling the land just on the other side of the fence.
Corner, from The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico’s Cities, 2013, Inkjet Print on Hahnemule Fine Art Paper, 24 x 20 inches, edition of 9. Several of Tijuana’s many skyscrapers are visible in the lower right corner of the image.

Car at Border Wall, From The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico, Archival Inkjet Print, 20 x 24 inches, edition of 9, 2017. People speed to get to the border crossing into the U.S. on the Mexican side of the border wall. Closer to the crossing, traffic backs-up, sometimes for miles.

The Walk, From The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico’s Cities, 2001, Chromagenic Print, 20 x 24 inches, edition of 10. This reflective skyscraper was of the Bolsa, Mexico’s stock exchange, in central Mexico City.
Banners, from The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico’s Cities, 2012, Inkjet Print on Hahnemule Fine Art Paper, 24 x 20 inches, edition of 9. These banners seemed to make an avian shape to me. I liked how the form is also mirrored in the poplar-type trees in the background. This image was in Tuxtla Gutierrez, the largest city in the Mexican state of Chiapas. Chiapas is on the border with Guatemala.
Man Walking Under Awning, from The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico’s Cities, 2010, Inkjet Print on Hahnemule Fine Art Paper, 24 x 20 inches, edition of 9.

Shoes, U.S. Mexico Border Fence, from The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico’s Cities, 2014, Inkjet Print on Hahnemule Fine Art Paper, 24 x 20 inches, edition of 9. This image seems like a metaphor, of shoes with no people on the fence separating Mexico and the United States.
Vision, From The Visitor, Walking 1000 Miles Through Mexico’s Cities, 1989, Chromagenic Print, 20 x 24 inches, edition of 10.
